Staff training in Play therapy

Staff at the Umingmak centre along with mental health staff from the Government of Nunavut, and the YWCA Qimaavik Women’s Shelter, participated in a six-day live training and received their certification in therapeutic play skills with the Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute. The training will enhance the therapeutic work that is already being done with our young clients. Staff understand the importance of play therapy and how it can facilitate communication; foster emotional wellness; enhance social relationships; and increase personal strengths. All important in the healing journey that counsellors and advocates help support our clients with.
