The Umingmak centre is one of 26 nation-wide child and youth advocacy centres. This first of its kind in the north, strives to help children, youth and families access services who have experienced various forms of abuse. Our safe, central location provides supports and services under one roof necessary for victims to lessen the impacts of traumatic experiences and pave the path for healing. We work closely with RCMP and the Department of Family Wellness to provide child centred and trauma informed forensic interviews, as well as the department of health to provide medical examinations. Our in-house staff include our Inuit child and family advocates, who provide guidance and support to the families, and our counsellors provide trauma informed child and youth specific therapy as follow up support.
